About Rachel
Rachel Weinstein is a grief specialist and certified grief educator* in the Jacksonville, FL area. She has been featured on television (MSNBC), in national newspapers (USA Today and The Chicago Tribune), and on over 50 syndicated radio programs, discussing various aspects on coping with grief, loss, and change. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Health Science (1989) and a Master’s Degree in Education with a specialty in Counseling and Counselor Education (1991), both from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.
Rachel spent the early part of her career as a general psychotherapist in the state of Pennsylvania before moving to California and receiving additional training in the area of bereavement support – after which she focused her practice solely on supporting grief, loss, and life transition. Her passion is providing individual support, healthcare advocacy, and public education - particularly to those whose needs are most overlooked and under-supported.
Rachel moved to Northeast Florida in 2014 to be closer to her family in Ponte Vedra Beach. She lives and works in Jacksonville and is a proud partner, sister, Aunt, and daughter (as well as a mother to one sweet Yorkshire-Poodle named Oliver). In her spare time, she loves to cook, read, and decorate spaces to make them peaceful and comfortable.
*What is a "certified grief educator"?
A certified grief educator is committed to providing the highest level of grief support through education, experience, and insights into the often unacknowledged rocky terrain of grief.
Certified Grief Educators completed a certificate program designed by world-renowned grief expert, David Kessler. They bring his unique methodology, tools, and decades of experience to help people navigate the challenges of grief.
At Jacksonville Center for Grief and Loss, you’ll be In the presence of someone patient, compassionate, and experienced in both surviving grief and supporting it. You’ll become educated about what is natural and normal to experience in grief and how you can move forward a step at a time. You’ll gain practical coping skills and be given tools for moving through your most difficult feelings including: intense longing, regret, anger/rage, traumatic images or memories, and “unfinished emotional business”. You won’t have to be selective with what you share or careful with how emotional or angry or overwhelmed you may be feeling. You’ll be encouraged to share, at your own pace, the details of your suffering that nobody else seems able to hear or knows how to expertly support. You’ll be heard and you’ll have a guide through your darkest hours.
When facing a major loss, whether it is a family member, friend, or meaningful relationship, most people are expected to immediately resume their lives, even if they’re not ready. Jacksonville Center for Grief and Loss is a safe and understanding place that is hear to listen to all your emotions and really search for the cause behind it. When we can process our emotions and speak to everything we are feeling, we can begin to find a place of healing. Healing takes time, which is why we ensure that all visitors feel that we are patient, calm, and attentive to your specific situation. We are not therapists, but work using techniques, methods, and strategies that have been seen to help those processing the trauma and emotions formed by grief.
